A subscription never stops costing
Microsoft 365 charges every year for as long as you use it, and the applications stop letting you edit when you stop paying. For a business that needs the newest features monthly, that trade is worth it. For most households and small offices, it is not — they use the same handful of tools they used five years ago and will use five years from now.
A license key just works
Pay once, install it, and keep using it. The software does not phone home for a renewal, does not downgrade itself, and does not care whether your card expired. Office 2024 receives Microsoft security updates into 2029. That is a long time to not think about a bill.
